AccurateTax for Shopify Documentation
Table of Contents
Introduction
AccurateTax for Shopify allows online retailers to have sales tax filed and remitted by AccurateTax, with or without the use of Streamlined Sales Tax (SST). It does not replace the need for Shopify Tax, but works after orders are placed to gather data for the purposes of reporting. The solution consists of an app that is installed on the retailer’s Shopify store, and the centralized AccurateTax server-based application that is hosted on our systems.

Important: Make sure you have all of the required information listed, as all steps on this page must be completed in a single session.
Installing the App
Before installing the AccurateTax app in your store, you should have the following:
- A Shopify store
- A Shopify Staff account with permissions to manage and install apps and channels and to approve app charges
- The username and password for your AccurateTax account
Once you have this information, proceed with the steps below to install and then configure AccurateTax in your Shopify store.
- Confirm that you can log into your account at https://us1.accuratetax.com.
- Go to the URL provided by AccurateTax to begin installation.
- If you have access to multiple Shopify stores from your Shopify account, you will be presented with a modal window. Click the store you wish to install the app on. (If you only have access to a single store, skip to #4).
- Click the black Install button in the left column.
- On the next page, review the permissions you are granting to the app, and then click the Install button on the right side of the page.
Completing Your Account Integration
Immediately after completing the steps above, you should continue into this section. All steps on this page must be completed in a single browsing session.
- At this point, you will see a page that says “Congratulations” at the top, with a button on the left side to create an account, and a button on the right side to sign into an existing account. In most cases, we will already have provided you with your account information, so click the burgundy Sign In button in the right column.
- From there, you will be taken to a login page. Enter your username and password, then click the Login button.
- If you have not already agreed to our Terms and Conditions, they will be displayed to you on a page. You must accept these before you can continue. Read through the text, and if you agree, check the box below the terms, and then click the burgundy Agree button. (If you have previously agreed to terms, you won’t see this screen, and you can skip to #10.)
- Now you will be directed to the Settings > Integrations page, where you will see a dark green button that says Finish Setup. Click that button. The page will reload and you should see “Enabled” in green text.
Setting up Billing
The third section is to set up billing through Shopify. Your recurring plan will be billed by Shopify, not directly by us.
- While still in your AccurateTax account on https://us1.accuratetax.com go to My Account > Billing.
- Choose your package from the dropdown. SST Only has no associated charge and is only for retailers who are only working with AccurateTax under the Certified Service Provider (CSP) contract with SST, and no other states. Choose that if applicable, or choose the package based on your monthly transaction volume.
- Most customers will not need Additional Tax Transactions, but if directed otherwise, enter the number of additional transactions.
- Confirm that the calculated price shown on the page is what you expected.
- Leave the Billing Method as Shopify. Even if you have another payment method on file, this page should be set to Shopify.
- Click the burgundy Update Billing button.
- You will be taken to a Shopify page to approve the subscription. Again, confirm the price, then choose (or add) a billing method at the bottom.
- Finally, click the black Approve button in the right column.
All transactions will be downloaded daily. You can log into your account at https://us1.accuratetax.com at any time to review those transactions.
Keep in mind that AccurateTax does not replace Shopify Tax. You will need to keep Shopify Tax active in order to continue charging sales tax to your shoppers. Be sure to take a look at our Frequently Answered Questions, where we address some common questions specific to Shopify Tax. In particular, review the section titled “How do I classify products for the purposes of taxation?” because this is important for correct tax calculation and classification by Shopify Tax, as well as correct reporting, filing, and remittance by AccurateTax.
