This sales tax calculator uses the same system that our TaxTools™ use to scrub addresses and look up sales tax rates. We offer this sales tax calculator free of use, but the free calculations are limited to ten per day per user.
The first step our sales tax calculator performs is to scrub, or validate and normalize, the provided US-based address against standard address formats and US Postal Service data. From there, we return a composite sales tax rate for regular products.(The enterprise version of our TaxTools™ product can also product-specific rates, such as tobacco, clothing, and apparel rates, which differ in certain locations.)
From there, we calculate the sales tax amount based on the composite rate and the sales price of all taxable goods being purchased.
